KANSAS COMMISSION FOR U N E S C 0
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
September 22, 1948
Miss Velma Carson
Morganville, Kansas
Dear Miss Carson:
I am in receipt of your letter of September 20, and of the accompanying check. After a long period of involved
calculation and not a little loss of blood, I arrived at the conclusion that you have given us $1.85 too much.
However, this afternoon I picked up the colored slides and am sending them to you immediately. Personally, they're
wonderful and they should be much in demand in Morganville. You should sell them and charge what the traffic will
bear. The total cost for the slides was $5.00. We would, of course, like to get that much out of them. We'll give
you credit for the $1.85 and that would leave $3.15 we have coming to us. Everything you make over $3.15 is gravy
for you. Or rather, it should be gravy for Feves.
There may be a problem of rationing these slides out. Copies of the slides as well as prints can be obtained. The
price for the cheapest print is something like $0.60 and additional copies of the slides cost $0.20 apiece if less
than 80 are made and $0.15 for 80 and above.
It might be a good idea not to let these slides be on display at the drug store; they're small and could easily be
lost and people are liable to smudge them badly with their finger prints. You might have a showing somewhere in the
town and invite everybody project them on a screen and let those that want to buy pick from the images, or
something.
Very truly yours,
(Signed) Dick Parker

Oops. I have just received a letter from Robert Sonkin requesting that I send him a set of proofs of the
"professional" photographer's pictures. How about sending me those you have now, i.e. the 19 black-and-white 8 x 10
prints you've had an display at the drugstore. (You won't have to buy them; they seem to be samples.) I'll send them
on to Sonkin for his and Operation Democracy's inspection.
(handwritten)
Also, the more I think about it, the more it seems to me that it might be a good idea to hold onto those slides and
have copies made for those that want them. If you keep one complete set, they could be shown at UNESCO meetings etc.
- or dont you think so? Anyway, do what you want - theyre Morganvilles pictures - RBP
