Morganville Men in Europe
A. W. Kolling, who is touring Europe, was met at the station at Metz, France, by Pfc. George Johnson, who is
stationed with the U. S. army in Germany. They visited Feves, our adopted village together and had a very pleasant
time for a couple of days. Pfc. Johnson had been planning to meet Mr. Kolling if he could arrange it and we are all
glad that he did.
At the end of that time, George left for Paris. Mr. Kolling was a guest in the home of Dr. Veve, near Feves, and
was planning to leave for Zurich, Switzerland to visit relatives before joining the tour. The weather has been
chilly and cloudy, so he had not been able to take as many pictures as he would have liked to. The prices are high
there too. He wrote that a meal cost $3.15 and extra charges for tea, coffee, water and dessert. Once he was
charged extra for bread. A hotel room cost $5.70, about what it cost in New York, according to a letter to Mrs.
Kolling.
He wrote he was glad he could speak German as the people there could use that language but not English.
