Sir: we are planning to follow your example in adopting a French town. This is a copy of the letter that resulted
in forming an active committee which has started work, tho we havent decided on the particular town. We are in
touch with Operation Democracy.
Will you give some benefit of your experience? Do you send bulk shipments thru the official agency? Has the
exchange of letters been encouraging. Can you give us some Dos and Dont? Well appreciate it.

To Your Members:
A group of Healdsberg, California citizens are joining in a project to adopt an unfortunate European city. Our
purpose is humanitarian, with the added purpose of augmenting the Marshall Plan with voluntary aid. We need to make
Europeans feel that America are their friends. We hope to mold them into democratic patterns. We will be doing our
part in rehabilitation and furthering the ideals of peace. By working together here as a community, we are assured
of official help in transportation from San Francisco and in suitable distribution.
What do we ask of you? Your good will. Your facilities for spreading information.
On January 13, 1949, the second Thursday of the month, there will be an open meeting at the Healdberg High School
at 8 p.m. to decide which community in Europe to adopt. We ask that you send one or more members to this meeting to
help in this decision and to carry information to your members
Please join us.
Sincerely,
(Hand written) Mrs. H. A. McCarrie
